Ventilago is a genus from the family of Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). The species usually form climbing shrubs or lianas . Their home is the tropics of the Old World .
description
The species of the genus form climbing shrubs or thick lianas, less often small trees. The leaves are opposite and are leathery or almost leathery, less often paper-like. The leaf base is crooked, the leaf margin entire or toothed. The flowers are solitary, in axillary clusters or in spike-like inflorescences . They are small, hermaphrodite, and fivefold. The sepals are usually present, triangular, and keeled on top. The petals are obovate to round and can be missing in a few species. The discus is thick, fleshy, and pentagonal. The ovary is round, sunk into the disc and two-sided. The stylus is divided. The fruits are lonely wing nuts .

The approximately 40 species are native to the tropics of the Old World.
Systematics and research history
Ventilago is a genus in the family of the buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which it is assigned to the tribe Ventilagineae . It was set up by Joseph Gaertner in 1788 in De Fructibus et Seminibus Plantarum . A synonym of the genus is Apteron Kurz .
