Ventilagineae are a tribe in the family of Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), which are associated with two genera. The representatives of the tribes grow in the tropics of the Old World.
description
The representatives of the tribe usually form climbing bushes , less often small trees . They are not reinforced, tendrils are missing. The branches are not flexible and hairless. The leaves grow alternately and have pinnate veins. The stipules fall off early. As inflorescences are dolde shaped cymes , tufts or axillary or terminal panicles formed. The single flowers have a spread calyx . Petals are present or may be absent. The ovary is twofold, semi-subordinate to subordinate and more or less sunk into the disc . The discus is meaty, warty, and gives off nectar . The stylus has two scar-like lobes, or it has two ends with separate scars . The fruits resemble wing nuts that do not open, or they are opening capsules with an appendage on top. The seeds have no endosperm . The outer pollen wall (exine) is wrinkled or perforated.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
