Prima ballerina is a song that was sung by the Swedish singer Siw Malmkvist and written by Hans Blum . It was the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969 .

Prima ballerina is a mid-tempo hit song. It is directed to a porcelain figure on a clock who is asked why she is alone and has to go through life without a lover. The singer tells that music is the life of the prima ballerina and that she keeps turning to the glockenspiel. Still, she says in the last chorus that one day everything beautiful will fade and that the porcelain figure will never understand that.
