Primero de Enero (until 1960: Violeta ) is a municipality and a city in the Cuban province of Ciego de Ávila . The name is dedicated to the victory of the Cuban Revolution on January 1st ( span : primero de enero ) 1959.

The municipality has 29,117 inhabitants on an area of ​​716.6 km², which corresponds to a population density of 40.6 inhabitants per square kilometer.
