Prince Amartey (born June 25, 1944 in Ho , Volta Region ) is a former Ghanaian boxer who won the bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 1972 Summer Olympics .

Career

Amartey took part in the 1968 Olympic Games , but retired from the light middleweight division in the second fight against Eric Blake, United Kingdom (4-1). He also had little success at the 1970 Commonwealth Games and was eliminated in the first fight against Patrick Doherty, Ireland . In the same year, however, he won an international tournament in West Berlin .

Amartey won his first international title at the military world championships in 1972, which he won in the middleweight division (-75 kg) with a final victory over Ennio Cometti, Italy . The following year he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games , losing to Reima Virtanen , Finland (3: 2) in the semifinals .
