Princess Watahwaso
Princess Watahwaso , actually Lucy Nicolar Poolaw ( June 22, 1882 in Penobscot County , Maine - March 27, 1969 there ) was an American singer ( soprano ). She was the first singer of Native American origin to have a successful career in the United States.
Life
Princess Watahwaso was discovered by the composer Thurlow Lieurance . With this she undertook extensive trips and sang his compositions in concerts as well as Indian songs arranged by him.
Her voice has been preserved on Victor records.
