The private brewery Strate Detmold GmbH & Co. KG is a brewery in Detmold in the Lippe district .

history

The brewery was founded by Adolf Hüppe in 1863. The headquarters of the brewery was then on Krummen Strasse, in the building of what is now the Detmold adult education center. The beer cellar on Büchenberg served as storage . Since expansion in the city was not possible, Hüppe acquired land on Palaisstrasse, where rock cellars were first excavated and the brewery building was built on the rubble mountains. Brewing has been going on on Palaisstrasse since 1863, and the company is now in its fifth generation as a family business. The current management consists of Renate Strate and her daughters Simone and Friederike. The company employs more than 30 people in production and administration.

The specialty of the house has been the swing top bottle since 1985 . With 36 million bottles, the brewery has developed into the second largest bottler of this type of bottle. The total output in 2006 was around 160,000 hectoliters and has increased around fivefold since 1979.

We are also working on specialty beers such as Detmold beer mustard and beer jelly. A specialty is the "Detmolder Urtrüb", which is exclusively bottled in barrels for the old Detmold brewery "Braugasse Nr. 2" from the early 16th century. It is the unfiltered regular Detmolder Pils beer.

Friederike and Simone Strate received the title of Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000 . After graduating in 1983, Friederike Strate was Germany's youngest female master brewer . The brewery building was built in neo-Gothic style, which gives the brewery a castle-like appearance. All expansions in recent years have only been carried out underground, so the castle-like impression was preserved.

In the “Stratosphere”, the brewery's visitor area, tours are offered for groups. Some of these are also managed by the managing directors. There is also a lot to learn about the history of the brewery. There is also a beer academy there, where you can take brewing courses.
