The private brewery Rechenberg GmbH & Co. KG is a brewery in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle in the Eastern Ore Mountains .

history

The first brewery was after Rechenberg already in 1558 brewing rights by Caspar IV. Schoenberg received from Nassauer Erbrichter built as a manor brewery. The brewery is one of the oldest producing breweries in Saxony. In 1586 the brewery buildings burned down, but the brewery was rebuilt. From 1647 the previous manor brewery belonged to the Electoral Chamber in Dresden. In 1834 the Rechenberger brewery was sold by the Kingdom of Saxony to the municipality of Nassau . In 1842 the community sold the brewery for 18,200 thalers to Gottlob Friedrich Bretschneider, who leased the brewery to master brewer Karl August Meyer. In 1876 his son, Reinhard Meyer, bought the building in 1872 for 22,550 gold marks and carried out extensive renovations. Since then, the brewery has been operating under the name Brauerei und Malzfabrik Rechenberg-Bienenmühle, Reinhard Meyer und Sohn .

Another renovation took place in 1912 and Martin Meyer took over in 1926; Georg Meyer acted as master brewer. In 1939, the production included beers from Munich and Pilsner Art. The 50,000 square meter property included the brewhouse with fire boiling, bottle washing system, a steam engine and the company's own malt house. In 1939, ten workers and employees produced 2,000 hectoliters of beer a year.

Due to the Second World War , brewing had to be stopped in 1940. Beer was not brewed again until 1947 and the malt house was no longer in operation. The brewery was again run by the Meyer family. The first state participation took place in 1958 with the establishment of a limited partnership , and in 1972 the brewery was completely expropriated and nationalized . Bottled beer production was discontinued and the brewery was incorporated as Plant II of the Olbernhau city brewery in the VEB Beverage Combine Karl-Marx-Stadt .

In 1990 the brewery was re- privatized and returned to the Meyer family. The owners became Andreas and Thomas Meyer. In the first half of the 1990s the brewery was extensively modernized, including a. A completely new brewery building for 30,000 hectoliters of annual production was built next to the old brewery buildings. In 1995 the new brewery went into operation. The old brewery was then restored from 1995 to 2002 and is now home to the Saxon Brewery Museum Rechenberg , which is one of the technical monuments of Saxony. The history of the brewery is documented in the museum and traditional beer production is shown with the brewing technology still in full working order.
