Prix Max Cukierman
The prix Max Cukierman (culture yiddish) or Prix de Yiddish Max Cukierman (German: Max Cukierman Prize (Yiddish culture) , English: Max Cukierman Yiddish Culture Award or Max Cukierman Award for Yiddish culture ) is a French culture award that awarded annually by the Conseil représentatif des institutions juives de France for contributions to Yiddish culture.

The prize is awarded and organized by the Conseil représentatif des institutions juives de France ( umbrella association of Jewish organizations in France ). A prerequisite is an achievement with content on Yiddish culture and language. The price does not depend on nationality or place of residence. Roger Cukierman and his brother Henri Cukierman created this award in 1982 in honor of their father Max Cukierman.
history
The Prix Max Cukierman was named after Max Cukierman. Max Cukierman (actually Chil Majer Cukierman , * in Ożarów ) was a raincoat manufacturer from Poland who moved to France in 1932. All relatives of the family who stayed in Poland were gassed in Treblinka during the occupation by the Germans from 1939 onwards . Max Cukierman was chairman of the Ożarów Circle of Friends - “his shtetl ” (“son shtetl”) - in Paris . He was also Vice-President of the Fédération des sociétés juives . Cukierman was also General Secretary of the Sionistes généraux together with Jaques Orfus . Cukierman was also chairman of the organization for the formation of summer camps in Israel. Cukierman was also chairman of Unzer Wort ( Yiddish אונדזער װאָרט; German: Our word ), a Yiddish-language daily newspaper that lasted until the 1990s.
