Pro Infirmis is a national specialist organization for private disability assistance in Switzerland .

history

The association, based in Zurich , was founded in 1920 as the “Swiss Association for Anomalies” (SVfA). In 1935 the name was expanded to include "Pro Infirmis" and in 1946 it was changed to "Pro Infirmis".

Guiding principle

Pro Infirmis combats discrimination against people with disabilities and advocates their inclusion and self-determination. As the largest specialist organization in Switzerland, Pro Infirmis advises and accompanies those affected and their relatives and supports them with a wide range of services as well as quick, unbureaucratic emergency aid.

tasks

The association represents the concerns of disabled people on a political level. On the one hand, their special needs are thematized and brought into the public discussion. On the other hand, it informs target groups in politics and administration about the current situation of the disabled in Switzerland. The organization introduces socio-political initiatives at the federal, cantonal and communal levels and takes a position on bills. The aim is to reduce grievances and discrimination. Pro Infirmis strives for a quantitative and qualitative improvement in social security.

The organization works with specialist staff. This is supported by the voluntary bodies of the organization. According to its own information, the association employs around 550 permanent employees. In addition, there is a large number of employees who are paid by the hour. According to their own statements, employees make around 100,000 advisory, caring and supportive contacts with disabled people and their relatives every year.

The services include assistance consultations , Consultancy , Assisted living , adult education courses , relief services , transport services , legal services , counseling services , residential school and Eurokey (key to handicapped facilities).

Campaigns

The association has been publicizing successful awareness campaigns since 2000.

Organization and finance

Around 60% of the services are financed from public services and 40% from private funds (donations, gifts, bequests) and other income. There are around 50 business and advice centers throughout Switzerland.
