The striker, who mostly played on the left winger, spent his entire footballing activity with the "red blouses" of the Duisburg game club. He already belonged to the West German championship team of the DSV in the 1907/08 season and played his first two final rounds of the German football championship for the eleven of the 1st chairman Gottfried Hinze (from 1905 to 1925) on May 3 and 24, 1908 . The Duisburg team won the game against Eintracht Braunschweig 1-0, but the semi-final game against the Stuttgarter Kickers was lost with 1: 5 goals. The club's chairman Gottfried Hinze stood in the gate, Lothar Budzinski-Kreth played the left wing, his younger brother Heinrich Fischer was in the center forward position , Christian Schilling played the left connecting role and Walter Fischer acted as usual on the left wing. This was followed by further successes in the West German championships in 1910, 1911, 1913, 1914 and, after the First World War , in the 1920/21 season as well. Through international match contacts, especially against British teams such as Oxford City (1908), FC Ilford London (1909), FC Clapton (1911) and Bolton Wanderers (1913), the DSV improved its gaming experience and thus its performance in this era. After his fourth championship success with the DSV in West Germany in 1912/13, Walter Fischer and his teammates prevailed in the final round of the German championship against the Stuttgarter Kickers with a 2-1 win and with the same result on April 27, 1913 in Essen against defending champion Holstein Kiel in the final. On May 11th, VfB Leipzig prevailed in Munich with a 3-1 victory and Duisburg had to be content with the runner-up. Due to the success in the final of the Crown Prince's Cup on June 8th in Berlin, the round ended with a title win.

In the 1913/14 series, it was the last final round of the German championship before the First World War, the DSV scored in the semi-finals after the 4-1 success after extra time in the quarter-finals on May 3 in Essen against the team of Adolf Jäger , Altonaer FC 93, again on the reigning German champions VfB Leipzig. On May 17th, the team around Eduard Pendorf , Paul Pömpner and Willy Völker narrowly won 1-0 and moved into the final on May 31st in Magdeburg against SpVgg Fürth. Walter Fischer took part in the final round of the German championship in 1920/21. Now the veteran acted on the left outside runner position. Against Hamburger SV they prevailed with a 2-1 after extra time, but in the semifinals they failed with the same result at the Berlin FC Vorwärts 1890. In total, from 1908 to 1921 the Duisburg-based company had eleven games with three goals in the final round the statistics.

Selection team

The left winger of the Duisburg game club made his debut on November 1, 1908 in the cup competition of the Crown Prince's Cup of the regional associations in the selection of West Germany at the game in Braunschweig against Central Germany. In the 1912/13 season he belonged together with his club mates Heinz Ludewig , Sebastian Quatram, Heinrich Fischer and Hermann Steinhauer to the team from West Germany that won the final on June 8, 1913 in Berlin with 5: 3 goals against Brandenburg . His brother Heinrich scored three goals. He was appointed to the German selection five times. Here he made his debut in the 6-2 victory over Switzerland on March 26, 1911 and was last used a few months before the outbreak of World War I, on April 5, 1914 in a 4: 4 against the Netherlands. For the Olympic football tournament in 1912, however, it was not taken into account. The long-time winger of the DSV experienced the last significant national success in his career on June 20, 1920 in the final of the National Cup in Hanover. West Germany won the cup with a 1-0 victory over Central Germany ( Camillo Ugi , Paul Pömpner , Eduard Pendorf , Fritz Förderer , Kurt Meißner ) and Walter Fischer stormed the left wing at the side of Karl Flink , Josef Schümmelfelder , Erich Pohl , Hermann Steinhauer and Walter Risse . In the competition for the Crown Prince and Federal Cup, Walter Fischer made eleven appearances from 1908 to 1920.
