Before starting school, he moved with his parents to Leipzig, where at the age of nine he began to play football on the “Bauernwiesen” with classmates of the Königin-Carola-Gymnasium . At the age of 11 he joined the Plagwitz soccer club Normania, which at that time consisted mainly of Thomas and commercial students. However, he soon became a supporter of FC Wacker Leipzig. "Edy" soon distinguished himself as a half-striker in the school team and in 1907 founded the Schleussiger football club Olympia with other football-loving schoolchildren. Gradually, the gnarled, long-legged, still youthful "Edy" qualified as an effective middle runner. His club Olympia did not belong to the Leipzig elite (VfB, FC Wacker, SpVgg) and therefore not to the Central German or German extra class. In 1912 he switched to the famous local rival VfB Leipzig.

In his first season he was German champion with VfB. With Pendorf as a middle runner, VfB prevailed against Askania Forst and Viktoria 1889 Berlin with the aces Willi Knesebeck , Helmut Röpnack and Willi Worpitzky and thus moved into the final. He scored on May 11, 1913 in Munich in the 3-1 final victory against Duisburg SpV as a middle runner a goal. As the defending champion, VfB won 1914 against Prussia Samland Königsberg and in the semifinals against Duisburger SV again in the final. In the final of the “Jungfrau Viktoria”, “Edy” Pendorf met SpVgg Fürth on May 31, 1914 in Magdeburg with his comrades . Again he hit the mark, in the 83rd minute he equalized 1: 1, but "Edy", "Bert" and "Paulsen" lost 3-2 after the extension of SpVgg Fürth ( Karl Burger , Julius Hirsch ) Gates. "Edy" Pendorf, a bank clerk by profession, played center runner at VfB Leipzig, unless Camillo Ugi was present. Otherwise he played in the club as a striker. After the end of the First World War , the defensive player took part in the finals for the German soccer championship with VfB Leipzig in 1920, 1925, 1927 and 1930 . The move into the final was no longer successful. His activity in the final tournament is 18 years. At the age of 40, he ended his playing career in 1932.

Selection / national team

After moving to VfB Leipzig, he was also part of the Central German team for the first time on October 13, 1912, and from then on he belonged to it. With Mitteldeutschland, "Edy" was in the final for the Crown Prince's Cup in 1914 after successes against Southeast Germany and South Germany. The final took place on February 22, 1914 in Berlin against northern Germany. The men around Adolf Jäger , Otto Harder and Richard Queck prevailed with 2: 1 goals. This was repeated six years later, also on June 20, 1920 in Hanover against West Germany he left the pitch with the Central Germans only as the “second” winner. With 0: 1 goals after extra time, he also lost the second final. In the third attempt on March 20, 1921, he won the final of the national cup in Leipzig with 4-0 goals against West Germany. His fourth participation in the final on March 6, 1927 ended in Altona against northern Germany with the third defeat. Pendorf played his last game for Central Germany on January 12, 1930 in Hamburg on Victoria Square . From 1912 to 1930 he had played 16 games in the Crown Prince Cup, National Cup and Combat Game Cup.

Eduard Pendorf, who was trained in athletics and often worked hard, played his first international match on March 21, 1913 in Berlin-Mariendorf against England's amateurs (0: 3). The runners were made up of three debutants: Otto Völker , Pendorf and Otto Jungtow . After a nine-year break, two more appearances in the German national team were to follow in 1922. On March 26th, the VfB middle runner had two outer runners from Fürth, Hans Lang and Hans Hagen, by his side in the 2-2 draw against Switzerland in Frankfurt am Main . In the surprising 2-0 win against Austria on April 24th in Vienna, the Leipziger defended together with Henry Müller from Hamburg .

Others

His younger brother "Hansi" Hans Pendorf followed him two years later, immediately before the start of the war, from Olympia to VfB Leipzig and then played with him as right winger and left winger in the club and in the Central German team. After the Second World War , Eduard Pendorf left Leipzig, found a new home in Braunschweig from 1950 and worked here as an authorized signatory at Deutsche Bank. After his active career, he worked as a successful coach, also at the foot of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal at VfB and later at SV Wacker Braunschweig. Eduard Pendorf had two sons who played football excellently. Ralph played from 1948/49 to 1954/55 in the Oberliga Nord at Eintracht Braunschweig and Hamburger SV, Edy junior also played in the Oberliga Nord at Eintracht Osnabrück.
