Berndt Rainer from Fieandt

Berndt Rainer von Fieandt (born December 26, 1890 in Turku , † April 28, 1972 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish politician , banker and Prime Minister.

Education and professional activities

After graduating from high school in 1909, he studied law, which he completed in 1913. He then worked as a lawyer.

He later served on the board of the United Nordic Bank and from 1945 to 1955 on the board of the Bank of Finland . From 1955 to 1957, he succeeded Sakari Severi Tuomioja as governor of the Bank of Finland.

In addition, until his death he was on the boards of various industrial companies and banks, including the Wärtsilä Gesellschaft (1931 to 1940) and the Finnish Postbank (1955 to 1960). He was also President and Vice-President of the Swedish-speaking business association Ekonomiska Samfundet i Finland on several occasions.

Prime Minister 1957 to 1958

Fieandt, who belonged to the governments of Prime Ministers Aimo Cajander and Risto Ryti as ministers from 1939 to 1940 , was Prime Minister of a transitional cabinet from November 29, 1957. After a vote defeat in the Reichstag because of the increase in bread prices, he resigned on April 18, 1958 and was replaced as Prime Minister on April 26, 1958 by Reino Iisakki Kuuskoski .
