Pro Wrestling ZERO1 , or ZERO1 for short , is the name of a Japanese wrestling promotion based in Tokyo , Japan . It was founded by Yoshiyuki Nakamura and Shinya Hashimoto in 2001. Pro Wrestling ZERO1 belongs to the Japanese martial arts Puroresu .

History & foundation

In 2001, Yoshiyuki Nakamura founded Pro Wrestling ZERO1 (founded as Pro Wrestling ZERO-ONE ) with the support of Shinya Hashimoto and Shinjiro Otani . In the beginning, it was possible to fill relatively large halls in cooperation with New Japan Pro-Wrestling , Pro Wrestling NOAH and All Japan Pro Wrestling . In 2004, Hashimoto sold the heavily indebted league, which now, due to the loss of big names, no longer attracted as many people as at the beginning, for financial reasons. This was absorbed by the acquisition of First On Stage, which acted as the parent company, renamed the league to Pro Wrestling ZERO1-MAX and installed Nakamura as president.

In 2008 the league was renamed Pro Wrestling ZERO1. In 2011 the league returned to the National Wrestling Alliance . Together they created the NWA Pan-Pacific Premium Heavyweight Championship in 2011, which has been awarded twice so far. First champion was Daisuke Sekimoto , who was later allowed to pass the title on to the well-known sumo wrestler Akebono Taro .

In 2012 they tried to conquer the Australian market and founded the League Zero1 Pro Wrestling Australia , which lasted until 2014. The business relationship ended in 2014. The promotion became the independent league Wrestle Rampage (WR). The promotion leads to other leagues in Japan (Zero1 Hong Kong), Mexico (Pro Wrestling Zero1 Mexico) and Belarus .
