The Proaig Bay is a small bay on the east coast of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about two kilometers south of McArthur's Head and 14 km east of the island's capital Bowmore . At the northern end of the bay there is a small stream that rises on the slopes of the Beinn Bheigeir . Proaig Bay is located in a sparsely populated part of the island and is therefore not accessible by road.
The bay is about 450 m wide and cuts 100 m deep into the land. There was once a settlement near the bay called Proaig , of which the remains of a shepherd's house are still preserved. According to the census of 1861, a family of eight still lived there at that time. In 1959 a stone with small bowl markings was discovered near the bay , but it could not be found again at a later date.
