Probigua

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Probigua (Proyecto Bibliotecas Guatemala) is a Spanish language school in La Antigua Guatemala that works with the Swiss non-profit organization of the same name for development aid and aims to improve the level of education in Guatemala . Language tourists who learn Spanish at the school help finance the project.

According to the travel guide "Reise Know-How", 40% of the population of Guatemala are illiterate, which is associated with the lack of books, among other things.

For this reason, every visitor is asked to bring a Spanish book - regardless of the subject - which is practically a registration fee.

Probigua claims to have set up over 20 libraries and several computer centers.

The Swiss association is based in Muttenz BL .

Awards

On August 21, 2001, the project received the "Access to Learning Award" from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and supported it with $ 250,000.
