Life
Her father was a civil servant who died early; the daughter could only study in a convent school. Kaffka received the teaching diploma for civil schools (polgári iskolai tanári oklevél) in 1902 and taught in Miskolc . In 1905 she married Brunó Fröhlich , a forest engineer. After five years the marriage failed, Kaffka went to Budapest , where she taught for another five years and married Ervin Bauer , a doctor-biologist, with whom she was happily married. From 1915 onwards, Kaffka was only active in literature. Kaffka and her son were victims of the worldwide Spanish flu in 1918 .
Poet, writer and publicist
The magazine Magyar Géniusz published the first poems of the then 21-year-old Kaffka . During her work as a teacher in Miskolc, she was a permanent member of the literary group Nyugat (German West ). Kaffka had two major literary themes: the crisis of the impoverished nobility (Hungarian dzsentri ) and the situation of contemporary women. Her second novel, Ants Nest, was a great success with the public; it dealt critically with monastery education.
