The Progressive Labor Party ( PLP for short , German Progressive Workers' Party ) is one of the two parties in Bermuda alongside the One Bermuda Alliance . Their orientation is social democratic in the center-left field , also the party represents anti-colonialist objectives .
history
The Progressive Labor Party entered the 1963 election just three months after it was founded, and its main aim was to reach workers . She also spoke out against ethnic inequalities . Initially, the PLP reached nine of the 36 seats in the House of Assembly .
From 1998 to 2012 and from 2017 the PLP constituted the Bermuda government .
Positions
In view of the past, the PLP is seen as the party of blacks and the OBA as the party of whites , which is still perceived today. That is why there are still many black people in the party today, which leads to different political positions. Basically the center-left party is social democratic, but the Progressive Labor Party was derived from its origins as a labor party and supports collectivism, social policy and economic policy to ensure progress for everyone in Bermuda. This is how the former party chairman Marc Bean describes the direction of the party.
