The Odyssey (PrO) project was a group of supporters and authors of publisher-independent role-play systems and game worlds , which supported free and author-rule systems with the publication. The PrO had no commercial interests, but was an independent sponsor of the independent scene from 2001 to around 2010. The project has not been officially discontinued, but is currently suspended due to a lack of committed employees.

The aim was to create independent role-plays through joint appearance and networking to achieve greater acceptance and thus also dissemination. Systems that are independent of the publisher should not be viewed as unprofessional and thus useless, but should be used as a source of ideas and inspiration, in order to more often dare to think outside the box of mainstream role-playing games.

For this, the provision was part of an extensive collection of rules and game worlds, some of which open source , are on the now offline previous site and the regular presentation of information and test laps for those interested in playing and book fairs and RPG - Conventions in Germany.

The sponsor of the Odyssey project is the non-profit Berlin role-playing association Nexus eV, but the group is open to anyone interested.

The project has existed since March 2001 and in 2006 supported 56 self-authored systems. The best known are the chronicles of Baal, Daidalos, Degenesis , Demiurgon, Mondagor , Prost and Thyria Steamfantasy.
