Prokop Paeonius

Prokop Paeonius , also Prokop Paeonius Světnovský , Prokop Poeonius , actually Prokop Holý (* 1581/82 in Světnov ; † November 3, 1613 in Prague ) was a Bohemian medic and poet. He used the pseudonyms Svetnovius and Tentobrodenus .

Live and act

The physician was a professor and treasurer at the Charles University in Prague . Holý Latinized his name in Paeonius , occasionally using the addition Světnovský . As the successor to Marcus Moravus Bydcžoviensis and Florentino, Paeonius became provost of the Collegium Carolinum in 1612 .

He published medical treatises on the anatomy of the human rib cage in Latin. Furthermore, Paeonius translated a treatise on the glory and majesty of man into Czech. His main work was a multi-part work on medicine in the early stages of the plague, which he completed in 1613. Paeonius is also the author of the funeral sermon for Marcus Moravus, written in Latin in 1612.
