Proper Filthy Naughty (also known under the abbreviation PFN and the former names Salamander and The Light ) is an English music project in the field of electronic dance music from London . The group consists of the two producers John Ross and Joe Williams . Their music style is not uniform: they were known for the electroclash song Fascination , but other releases can be stylistically assigned to house and breakbeat .
Career
According to his own statements, John Ross has been making music since 1991 and was mainly influenced by hip-hop . He made a name for himself especially as a remixer of some tracks by greats of the electronic music scene like Paul Oakenfold , but also pop stars like Britney Spears .
The project itself was founded in 1994 under the name Salamander , from 1996 the duo called themselves The Light . Their first big club hit was Expand the Room in 1997, which can be assigned to the style Progressive Breaks . In 2000 the band renamed itself to its current name and experimented with alternative sounds. This was followed by the breakbeat titles Stitch Up and Philter / Earphones , which could also develop into club hits. In 2003 they released their debut album Fascination , the title track of which was released as an EP. The song, which combines a simple synthpop beat with a breathy female vocal line, developed into a worldwide club hit, but the greatest success was achieved in South America, where the title also received a lot of airplay in the mainstream scene and the song became one of the biggest summer hits in the tourist centers. The singer of the song "Fascination" is Barbara Alcindor, who became known through the German-French language dance project French Affair .
