Prophecy of Doom was an English deathgrind band from Tewkesbury .

Band history

The group was formed in the summer of 1988 by David "Shrew" Schroder ( vocals ), Martin Holt ( bass ), Jarrod "Jazz" Rhone ( drums ) and a guitarist named Matthew. After a few appearances, Prophecy of Doom recorded the first demo Insanity Reigns Supreme in October 1988 at Birdsong Studios in Worcester . Singer Schroder attached great importance to his song texts, in which he processed topics from philosophy and psychology . They were considered to be the most unusual texts on the British hardcore punk and grindcore scene of the time. After the demo recording, drummer Rhone and guitarist Matthew left the band. With the new drummer Dean Uzzell and a guitarist named William, the two songs of the single Calculated Mind Rape were recorded in 1989 and released on the DIY label Prophecy Records . Shortly thereafter, Peaceville Records signed the group to its sub-label Deaf Records . William left the band and was replaced by guitarists Tom Csuka and Steve "Shrub" Laver. With this lineup the first radio recording of which took place on January 28, 1990 Peel Sessions of the BBC instead. The debut album Acknowledge the Confusion Master was released that same year. Numerous live performances followed, including a. as opening act for Cro-Mags , Prophecy of Doom was featured on the metal hammer video Hard'n'Heavy . The live EP Until the Again was released and the band played the second peel session in April 1991 .

Shortly afterwards, drummer Dean Uzzell suffered a nervous breakdown on the way to a concert and had to seek treatment for burnout syndrome . Founding member Jarrod Rhone came back to the band for him and work on the second studio album began. During the rehearsals for the new songs, some band members began to use drugs . Cooperation within the group was made more difficult, the finished songs were rearranged several times for each rehearsal and due to the intoxication of some group members, communication was almost impossible. Matrix was released on Metalcore Records in 1992 . Shortly thereafter, the band's line-up collapsed, guitarist Tom Csuka moved to his girlfriend in Wales , the second guitarist Steve Laver was fired by bassist Martin Holt and drummer Jarrod Rhone and replaced by Mike Johnson. A little later Rhone also left the band and was replaced by Steve Jay for a third peel session . This turned out to be a fiasco because guitarist Johnson was so drugged that he could not play. Then the band broke up in 1993.

In the mid-1990s, singer David Schroder and guitarist Steve Laver attempted a comeback. With bassist Jim Whiteley (ex- Napalm Death , ex- Ripcord ) and drummer Mark Hall, Prophecy of Doom made some live appearances and recorded the demo Ego Death Grind . After singer Schroder was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in 1996, the band finally broke up. Singer Schroder and guitarist Laver later founded Alehammer , Dean Uzzell committed suicide in 2002. The Italian label Agipunk released the 1996 demo as a single under the title Tri-Battle Thought-Form Engagement in 2007 .
