Prosp e kt M i ra ( Russian Проспект Мира ) is the name of a subway station on the ring line of the Moscow Metro . The station was opened on January 30, 1952 and since May 1, 1958 has offered a direct transfer option to the underground station of the same name on the "orange" line .

The only entrance to the station, which is 40 meters below the surface, is in the Meshchansky district in the north of Moscow city center. The name of this and the transfer station of the same name literally means “Prospect of Peace” and is also the name of the arterial road going out of town into the M8 trunk road, on which the entrances to both underground stations are located. Both the station of the ring line and that of the “orange” line have only had this name since June 20, 1966. Before that, both were called Botanitscheski Sad , literally “Botanical Garden”. This was due to the “Apothecary Garden ” located near the stations, which is now a branch of the Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the north of Moscow . After the latter, a station on the “orange” line, newly built in 1978, was again named Botanitscheski Sad ; this name has remained the station to this day.

The vestibule of the Prospekt Mira underground station on the ring line was completed at the same time as the station and is located in a multi-storey residential building on the east side of the prospectus. Probably the most famous building in the vicinity of the subway station is the Olimpijski multi-purpose hall , which was built for the 1980 Olympic Games and can be reached on foot from the other side of the prospectus.

As is usual with the Moscow ring line metro stations, the platform can be reached by escalators from the counter hall in the vestibule . The richly ornamented columns that support the vestibule building from the inside give an idea of the magnificent design of the platform hall typical of all Moscow underground stations in the early 1950s. The two rows of pylons and the arched vault form the central part of the platform, which is illuminated by bronze chandeliers . The pylons, which are supplemented with massive benches, are clad in white marble , as well as ornamental compositions in the upper third, the center of which is a ceramic medallion on the subject of the achievements of Soviet agriculture . The floor, with black and light gray granite slabs, has a checkerboard pattern. The ornaments on the pylons were made by the sculptor Georgi Motovilow , while the overall design of the subway station is the work of Vladimir Helreichen , a well-known architect of Socialist Classicism .

The transition to the station of the “orange” line can be reached from the platform via the stairs at the western end of the platform hall, while escalators lead from its eastern end to the ticket hall.
