Fellows mosaic tail rat ( Protochromys fellowsi ) is a rodent from the group of old world mice (Murinae). It is the only representative of the genus Protochromys , but is sometimes classified in Melomys . No information is available about the origin of the epithet fellowsi .

The species reaches a head body length of up to 18 centimeters, the tail is longer than the body. Their fur is gray-brown on the back, their belly is noticeably red.

This rodent is common in eastern New Guinea . It lives in mountain forests between 1800 and 2600 meters above sea level and likes to stay in areas overgrown with moss. Otherwise, little is known about their way of life.

Fellows mosaic tail rat is widespread and common, the IUCN lists the species as "not endangered" ( least concern ).
