Limburg Province

The Province of Limburg was an administrative unit in the Kingdom of the United Netherlands , which existed from 1815 to 1839. In terms of area, it emerged from the Département de la Meuse-Inférieure ("Department of the Lower Meuse"), which existed during the so-called French period from 1795 to 1814 .

The naming should be reminiscent of the old Duchy of Limburg and thus help to preserve the names of the seventeen Dutch provinces from the Burgundian-Habsburg period.

In 1839 the province was divided into in the wake of the Belgian Revolution
