Maule Province

The province of Maule ( Spanish Provincia de Maule ) was a province in Chile . It was formed on August 30, 1826 from the Delegaciones Cauquenes , Itata , Linares , Parral and San Carlos of the Intendencia de Concepción formed in 1823 . Cauquenes was designated the capital . In 1833 the Delegaciones were transformed into Departamentos. The province of Maule now consisted of the following five departments:

On April 21, 1834, the Departamento de Constitución was formed from parts of the Departamentos Cauquenes. On February 2, 1848, the Department of San Carlos merged with the Department of Chillán from the Province of Concepción to form the new Province of Ñuble . After the province of Linares was founded on December 11, 1873 , the following departments remained in the province of Maule:

  • Cauquenes
  • Constitución
  • Itata

On November 8, 1901, the Chanco Department was formed from parts of the Cauquenes Department. Between 1927 and 1936 Linares was the capital and the departments of Linares, Loncomilla and Parral also belonged to the province of Maule. In the 1970s the province was dissolved and part of the new Región del Maule .
