Process data are analog and digital values ​​that are obtained from a technical process using sensors . The process data represent the current status of the process in the control system . Process data are displayed to the operator, archived and used to automatically influence the process. In some application areas, process data also refers to the archived process data.

Nowadays, process data are often transferred to a programmable logic controller via fieldbuses . Telecontrol technology is used for the transmission of process data over greater distances.
