Pseudo-Alexios II (Paphlagonia)

Pseudo-Alexios II. Komnenos ( Middle Greek Ψευδο-Ἀλέξιος Βʹ Κομνηνός ; † probably spring 1192) was a Byzantine usurper against Emperor Isaac II.

Life

Pseudo-Alexios II was one of several pretenders to the throne of the Byzantine Empire, who appeared during the reign of the Angeloi dynasty (1185-1204) in Asia Minor and claimed to be the emperor Alexios II , who had been murdered in 1183. He rose in Paphlagonia at the end of 1191 or beginning of 1192 , but after a short time he was defeated, captured and executed in a battle by Chartularios Theodoros Chumnos .
