Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis ( Syn .: Careproctus amblystomopsis ) is a deep-sea fish from the family of the disc bellies (Liparidae). It lives in the northwestern Pacific at very great depths of 3110 to 8370 meters and hasbeen detectedin the Japan Trench and the Kuril Trench . The holotype was caught in the Kuril Trench at a depth of 7210 to 7230 meters. Footage from 2008 showing a small group of fish over a bait was taken from a depth of 7703 meters. Only one specimen of Abyssobrotula galatheae was recovered at an even greater depth (8,370 meters in the Puerto Rico Trench ) and was already dead at the time of capture . Until Pseudoliparis swirei wasdiscovered, Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis was considered the deepest fish species.
features
Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis becomes about 22 to 24 cm long. Like all disc bellies, it has an elongated body that is flattened at the rear and is surrounded by a fin edge made of dorsal, caudal and anal fin that have grown together. The largest body height is 20% of the standard length , the head length is 21%, the head width 20% and the head height is around 17% of the standard length. In the holotype , the dorsal fin is supported by 49 rays , the anal fin by 43. The pectoral fins have 30 main fin rays and the caudal fin 11.
Way of life
Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis is known so far only from the Japan Rift and Kuril Rift, where it is probably endemic . A specimen of Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis was filmed in the Japan Trench at a depth of 6945 m. It used pectoral fins and tail fin synchronously for locomotion and snapped at amphipods . It could not be determined whether these were eaten.
