Pseudorhina is an extinct species of shark from the Jura , closely related to the recent angel sharks ( Squatina ). Fossils of the genus have been found in Europe, Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Australia.

features

Pseudorhina was a medium-sized shark with a ray-like flattened body. The pectoral and pelvic fins were very large. One anal fin was missing. There were two small dorsal fins on the tail fin stalk. The caudal fin was small. His head was rounded, the mouth was at the tip of the head, was slightly below and set with wide teeth.

Pseudorhina differs from the recent angel shark species Squatina mainly in the structure of the skull and the tooth roots and the more primitive vertebrae. The supranural, part of the vertebrae, are plate-like low in pseudorhina and articulate closely with one another; in squatina they are slimmer and higher and further apart.

Pseudorhina has been documented for the Jura and at that time occurred alongside various species of angel shark of the genus Squatina . Teeth similar to those of Pseudorhina are also known from the Cretaceous period .
