Psychomagic

Psychomagie or originally in Spanish psicomagia is the title of a book by Alejandro Jodorowsky , which was first published in 1995 in France by Albin Michel under the title "Le théatre de la guérison".

The book is the result of a series of interviews Gilles Farcet conducted with Jodorowsky. It is a kind of biography in interview form that describes Jodorowsky's career in the fields of poetry, theater performance, dream work, shamanism , and the art of healing. Jodorowsky is known as a film director of the 1970s cult films and midnight movies El Topo and Montana Sacra - The Holy Mountain and as the founder of the Mouvement Panique with Fernando Arrabal and Roland Topor . Under the term psychomagic he sums up his experiences from art and spiritual experiences (he practiced Zen Buddhism with Ejo Takta for a long time ), which he justifies as follows: "Today I am only interested in an art that heals."

In practice, the application of psychomagic looks like this: After an introductory conversation in which the topic is explored, Jodorowsky “prescribes” a “psychomagic act” for the person seeking advice. The strongly theatrical acts, which often have surreal echoes, are intended to address the unconscious directly and overcome conflicting patterns through acting out. Detailed examples of psychomagic acts can be found in Jodorowsky's books Psicomagia , Manual de Psicomagia (German practical book of psychomagic ) and La danza de la realidad.

In return for the prescription of a psychomagic act, Jodorowsky demands that the person seeking advice write him a letter afterwards, in which he reports on what he experienced during the act and afterwards. And he has the word Merci drawn on the palm of his hand with his finger.

Jodorowsky's son Cristóbal Jodorowsky also works with psychomagic and psychoshamanism.
