Public Relations Association Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Public Relations Association Austria ( PRVA ) is the Austrian professional association of communication experts based in Vienna . The association emerged in 1980 from the Public Relations Club Austria (PRCA) founded in 1975. The PRVA sees itself as "the voluntary professional organization of professional, independent and dependent economically active PR professionals."

organization

The board currently (2019) consists of ten volunteer members. Julia Wippersberg is president of the PRVA. The board draws up a work program for the two-year board period. The PRVA criticizes the lobbying and lobbying transparency law that came into force at the beginning of 2013 because there is unequal treatment of agencies compared to associations.

activities

Events

Every year there is a communication day and a PR gala. The central concerns of the PRVA are the systematic exchange of experiences, the promotion of young talent and quality assurance.

Prices

The association annually organizes the State Prize for Public Relations, which is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location (BMDW). In addition, it annually awards the Austrian Science Prize for Public Relations for master's theses, diploma / master's / master's theses and every three years for dissertations. In addition, it awards the "BEST PRactice Award", with which particularly innovative PR services are recognized and presented to a wider public, and "The Silver Feather", the prize for employee media. The association has also been awarding the "Communicator of the Year" award since 1995. This title is intended to honor a personality who draws attention to socio-politically relevant topics through their outstanding communicative performance and who primarily operates in Austria. Sigrid Maurer became Communicator of the Year 2018 .

science

The Scientific Senate of the PRVA

To promote science, research and education in the PR area, the Scientific Senate of the PRVA was founded in 1986, which acts as an organ within the PRVA. The Scientific Senate is supported by public figures, from business, science and the media. These so-called senators also make the funding contributions.

The Scientific Senate is currently working on the "Mobile PR Professorship". Via the "Mobile PR Professorship", the Scientific Senate of the PRVA offers universities and universities of applied sciences a free block course organized by the Senate for a wide variety of fields of study (outside of communication courses and courses; such as economics, law, technology, medicine, etc.) Basics of strategic PR and communication work.

PR newcomers

Over 100 young people are Newcomers members. The Newcomers were founded in October 2011 and are the contact point for young PR people, support them in their job search and offer lectures and discussion groups.

Development of the agency and association scene

In 1968 the working group for press officers was founded with the aim of coordinating press conference dates. The ArGe for press officers tried to create a job profile for press officers for the first time. In 1969 the Austrian PR Society was founded. But this attempt to found a professional representation failed. Only the PR Club Austria (PRCA), founded in 1975 by Wolf-Dieter Hugelmann and others, was able to establish itself. In 1980 it was renamed the Public Relations Association Austria (PRVA).

Not all Austrian PR people are members of the PRVA, because the PRVA follows a clear selection principle in its membership policy, not least in order to differentiate public relations as clearly as possible from other professions with different objectives.
