Publius Aelius Vitalianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Publius Aelius Vitalianus was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 3rd century AD .

A dedicatory inscription that was found at the Fanum Cocidi fort and which is dated to 122/367 shows that Aelius Vitalianus consecrated an altar to the deity Cocidius . Another inscription proves a Publius Aelius Vitalianus around 236/238 as procurator in the province of Mauretania Caesariensis .

If Aelius Vitalianus is identical to Publius Aelius Vitalianus , then, according to John Spaul, he was initially the tribune of the Cohors I Augusta Nerviana Germanorum , which was stationed in the province of Britannia , before he later became procurator in Mauretania Caesariensis .
