Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio (suffect consul 24)
Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio was a politician and senator of the early imperial era from the patrician gens Cornelia . He was a son of the eponymous suffect consul of the year 2.
In the year 15 Scipio held the office of Praetor aerarii . From 21 to 23 he served as legate of Legio VIIII Hispana in the province of Africa . There he was involved in the fighting against Tacfarinas . In 24 he became a suffect consul. It was only under Claudius that he received the next outstanding office in 41/42 as proconsul of the province of Asia . He was married to Poppaea Sabina , the mother of Nero's wife of the same name . When she was involved in an affair that led to her suicide in 47, Scipio spoke out about her in a diplomatic manner in the Senate.
His sons of different women were the later consul of the year 56, Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio , and the suffect consul of the year 68, Publius Cornelius Scipio Asiaticus .
