Publius Septimius Geta (Consul 203)

Publius Septimius Geta was a Roman politician and senator .

Geta was born in Leptis Magna in the province of Africa as the son of Publius Septimius Geta and was the brother of the future emperor Septimius Severus . His date of birth is unknown, which is why it is also unclear whether he was older or younger than his brother.

Before his praetoric career, Geta decemvir stlitibus iudicandis , tribune of the legio II Augusta , quaestor in the province of Creta et Cyrene and aedil cerialis .

Around 185 Geta became a legate of the legio I Italica , after which he was proconsul of the province of Sicily (probably around 187/188) and between his proconsulate and his suffect consulate he was a legate of the province of Lusitania (probably 188-191).

Geta probably became a suffect consul in 191. After his consulate he became a legate of the Roman province Moesia inferior (Lower Moesia ). As governor, he was in command of the Lower Mossian army and supported his brother Severus when he was proclaimed emperor in Pannonia superior in April 193 . Most likely, Geta was appointed governor of Moesia inferior by Commodus . After his governorship in Moesia, Geta became a legate of Dacia . The culmination of his career was the ordinary consulate together with the Praetorian prefect Plautian in 203.
