The Puch DS 50 or Puch DS 50 N is a moped and motor scooter with a displacement of 48.8 cm³ and an output of 1.0 to 1.7 kW , which was manufactured from 1959 to 1981 by the Austrian manufacturer Steyr-Daimler-Puch . DS stands for two-seater shell frame, the number 50 stands for the displacement of approx. 50 cm³.

General

The vehicle had a fan-cooled single - cylinder two-stroke engine from the Puch VS 50 model . The clutch and transmission are combined in one block. The first models had a 3-speed twist grip manual gearshift and, for an additional charge, a 3-speed footshift. Later types from 1967 onwards had a 4-speed footshift and modified front and rear headlights. Extras for an extra charge were: luggage rack, frame protection for the front fender or frame crash bars.

The DS 50 was initially painted light blue, newer models were champagne-yellow-cream, had a larger tank with 10.5 l and a chrome-plated handlebar. Some export models had a different color scheme. A total of 283,554 units were built.

In addition to the DS 50, from 1960 to 1966 there was also a Puch DS 60 with 60 cm³ displacement and 2.9 kW output, which was painted gray, had been produced in a number of 27,469 and differed little from the DS 50: Except the so-called R-engine of the DS 60 led the exhaust under the running board and not, as usual, on the top on the right side. According to the manufacturer, it reached up to 70 km / h.

In 1981 a DS 50 cost 15,517 schillings , which is around 1,128 euros today. In 1974 the purchase price was 10,556 schillings.
