The Pudding Mill River is an underground watercourse in the London Borough of Newham . It is part of the Bow Back Rivers and flows into the River Lea . The watercourse runs from Old Ford Lock to St Thomas Creek on Stratford High Street. Its length is almost 800 m.
From 1200 to 1934 at least one mill stood by the river. There was water in the Pudding Mill River until the 1960s and it was occasionally used as a parking lot for unused barges. After that, the watercourse was increasingly filled with garbage. In the early 21st century the watercourse was cleared and wildlife returned. After the decision to host the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the watercourse was moved below the surface in 2007. Only a small section is recognizable at its confluence with the River Lea.
