Puente de San Martín (Toledo)
The Puente de San Martín ( German Sankt-Martin-Brücke ) is a medieval bridge over the Tagus River in Toledo ( Spain ). The bridge was built in the late 14th century by Archbishop Pedro Tenorio as a western entrance to Toledo and served as a complement to the older, eastern Puente de Alcántara . Both sides of the bridge were heavily fortified with towers , the newer of which dates from the 16th century.
The Sankt-Martin-Brücke spans the Tagus in five arches, with the largest in the middle having an impressive span of 40.0 m. Very few arch bridges in the world had reached this mark by then.
