history

Then as now, the military and military use seem to be a kind of obstetrician for the Hanau district. “In 1880 the Prussians ruled the area and built a powder mill in nearby Lamboy because of the good rail connections. The lonely situation was also not insignificant. Eight years later, the munitions factory blew up for the first time. Dead were mourned. The old powder mill, which is now a discotheque, became too small with the approaching First World War. A new location was opened a few hundred meters further. Up to 1918, up to 5,000 people produced ammunition for the emperor's cannons ”. Even today, the development of the Wolfgang district is strongly influenced by recent military influence. As a result of the withdrawal of the US armed forces, a large conversion area has already been partially rebuilt or is still under construction.

The powder mill in Hanau-Wolfgang was initially used by the American occupiers after the Second World War, and later as a community hall for the Hanau district of Wolfgang. In the early 1970s, the powder mill was first converted into a disco under the name "Reiner's Club". The success could not be continued by the successor "Electric Cowboy". The cultural and gastronomic use began on November 4, 1995 with the already similar-sounding name "JoCulture Club".

Since October 2000 the building of the historic powder mill has housed the “Culture Club Hanau” as we know it today. However, the various areas such as the bar, the outdoor area, the theater and also the restaurant have been remodeled and redesigned again and again over the past 12 years. In January 2014, the “Pulvermühle” club restaurant was returned to the original shape of the building: wallpaper and plaster had to give way to the exposed masonry and now give a view of the historic walls of the “Pulvermühle”.
