Pump chain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pump chain is a chain that is used to raise and lower submersible pumps , mostly in manholes in the water and sewage industry.

Norms

Different materials, load capacities and designs are required for the various purposes . Pump chains made of steel with a hot-dip galvanized surface or in stainless steel are used.

As a rule, only tested, short-link round steel chains that comply with the relevant regulations for chain slings for lifting loads may be used. In the past, the basis was DIN 695 or DIN 5688, now the European standard EN 818. The pump chain should be equipped with a load-bearing plate and stamped with the manufacturer's mark, traceability code and quality class.

commitment

The pumps chain as a sling the connection between the submersible pump and the hoist. Hand winches or hoists with a relatively short stroke are used as hoists.

Therefore, the pump chains, at certain intervals, e.g. B. 1000 mm, be equipped with suspension links, so that the chain can be hung back on a corresponding anchorage above the shaft when lifting each stage . This process is repeated for both lifting and lowering.

For larger and heavier pumps or for the possibility of changing the position of the pump, pump chains can also be used in a two-line version. This version is as mentioned from above, but at the lower end you spread the chain open, i.e. H. the pump chain ends with 2 strands, the end fittings of which are then connected to the pump.

These types of pump chains have in the single-line version at both ends and in the above. In each case a suspension link, in accordance with the requirements of the standard, or at the lower end a somewhat larger, so-called B-link, in which a shackle is used as an end fitting for connection to the submersible pump.

As a further variant, pumps can also be used with electrically driven hoists. In this case, a short-link hoist chain, usually made of stainless steel, is used, which is picked up directly by the hoist. This version requires a calibrated, tested hoist chain with an end fitting at the lower end so that the submersible pump can be attached to it.

For example, a load hook with safety device, a shackle or a suspension link are used as end fittings for all three pump chains mentioned. This depends on the equipment of the submersible pump.

Like other chain slings, pump chains are also manufactured in various quality classes. The higher the quality class of the chain, the thinner the chain can be with the same load-bearing capacity. Since submersible pumps and therefore the associated pump chains are used in a wide variety of liquids, the demands on corrosion resistance and hygiene are very high. For these reasons and because of their longer service life, pump chains are increasingly made of stainless steel .
