The company was founded in 1997 and owns pubs and inns in the UK. In November 2003 the British competitor Pubmaster and in 2004 InnSpired were bought, and in December 2005 the competitor Spirit Group was acquired . As a result of acquisitions in recent years, Punch Taverns has grown into the largest pub operator in Great Britain. The strongest competitor is the Mitchells & Butlers chain .
