The dotted grass chirp ( Graphocraerus ventralis ) is a dwarf cicada from the subfamily of the chirps (Deltocephalinae).

features

The dotted grass chirp has a length of 4.5–6 mm. The medium-sized cicadas are predominantly yellow-green in color. They have four small black spots that lie on a line across the vertex . Two to four more small black spots are in the front area of ​​the pronotum . The label has no marks or marks. The fore wings reach the end of the abdomen in the males , while they are shortened in the females.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe. They occur in the north as far as northern England and Scandinavia, and in the south as far as the Mediterranean. In the east the distribution area extends from Graphocraerus ventralis to Siberia.

Way of life

Open land locations form the habitat of the cicada species. Various sweet grasses (Poaceae) belong to the forage plants of the spotted grass chirp . The adult cicadas can be seen from mid-May to early September. The species forms one generation per year and hibernates as an egg.
