Punt Ota (Pontresina)
Punt Ota ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Putèr for "high bridge") is a bridge for pedestrians in Pontresina in the Upper Engadine . It leads over the Bernina stream and connects the train station with the village of Pontresina.
,The over 300-year-old bridge bears the inscription " In 1710 Flurin P Tumaesch and Alesch Frauntz community leader FF " and is depicted in the town's coat of arms.
After the Reformation was adopted in 1537, images and statues of saints from the church of Sta. Maria removed and thrown from the Punt Ota into the river. The floating statues were mockingly called "Bhieti Gott" ( hdt . : "protect you God"), which led to the name of the Pontresians: ils Pietigots .
