Puntukas

The Puntukas is the second largest boulder in Lithuania , which was moved from what is now Finland to the Anykščiai area around 18,000 years ago . It has a weight of around 265 tons and the dimensions (6.90 × 6.70 × 5.70) meters³, its volume is around 100 cubic meters.

The stone carved on the front serves today to commemorate the Lithuanian -US pilots Darius and Girėnas, who died while crossing the Atlantic . In 1943 the sculptor B. Pundzius chiseled the relief; this took him half a year. Until 1957 the boulder was considered the largest of its kind in Lithuania. He was replaced in this order by the larger Puokė near Barstyciai in the Žemaitija National Park .
