The Purcell snow field is a snow field with a diameter of 24 km in the center of Alexander I Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies between the Colbert Mountains and the Douglas Range .
The British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped it in 1960 using aerial photographs taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1961 after the English composer Henry Purcell (1659–1695).
