Purdy's Wharf office complex in the Halifax skyline

Purdy's Wharf refers to an office building complex in Halifax, Canada . The two skyscrapers of different heights and connected by a skywalk on the edge of the harbor are named after Purdy's Landing, a pier. Both skyscrapers built between 1980 and 1985 have shaped the skyline since then. The architectural office Shore Tilbe Irwin + Partners from Toronto was responsible for planning the high-rise buildings .

South Purdy's Wharf Tower I is 74 meters (18 stories) high. The higher Purdy's Wharf Tower II, located to the north, has a height of 88 meters (22 floors). The latter is also the second tallest building in Halifax after the Fenwick Tower . With the help of a supporting structure, both buildings partially protrude beyond the shore line into the port. The buildings, which have the same floor plan and external shape, are supported by a reinforced concrete structure, the white beams of which are visible from the outside in a vertical direction along the entire height of the building. A glass facade surrounds the building envelope, slightly offset inwards . Both skyscrapers are air-conditioned with a water cycle, the water of which is taken from the harbor basin. On average, the cooling system, which is fed by the lake water alone, is sufficient for ten and a half months a year. Conventional cooling units are used for the remaining six weeks.
