The Purgatory Peak ( English for purgatory mountain ) is a mountain in East Antarctica Victoria Land . It rises 3 km southwest of Pond Peak in the Saint Johns Range .
The New Zealand Northern Group of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) named it after the weather and terrain conditions they encountered while exploring the mountain.
