reception

criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated Purple Reign with five out of a possible five points. From the point of view of the editor Stefan Johannesberg, Future reflects “ despite superficial trap-tearers ” on his “ life with his own eyes like Azad once did . “Almost every song revolves around“ coming to terms with the current situation ”and“ drug consumption is accompanied by lovesickness around Ciara and a defiantly angry shit-I-am-boss-attitude anyway. “With regard to the production, Nard B is particularly emphasized, who has“ been on a creative high flight through the streets of Atlanta for some time ”. For the piece Never Forget he presented " an ultra-hard creeping head nod, whose brutality is countered again and again by melodic strings ". Due to the " intensity of content ", which " partly reached the level of New York OG poets ", Purple Reign Futures climb the " multiple gilded tape throne " and move in front of the mix tapes Monster , 56 Nights , 1000 and Astronaut Status .

Leaderboard

In the list of the “Best Hip-Hop Mixtapes of the Year” 2016 by Redbull.com, Purple Reign was ranked 9th. This is how “ unbelievably complex flows, an infinite range of sounds and an almost hypnotic style [...] come together to perfection. “The contribution of“ DJ Esco and Metro Boomin as Executive Producers ”also contribute to this. Taken together, Purple Reign results in a “ wonderful mixtape that deliberately celebrates the hard, cold aesthetic ” and Futures represents “ best performance ” so far.
