The purple onion apple (also 'Kohlenbacher', 'Christkindler', 'Franzosenapfel', 'Aujäger' or 'Talapfel') is a regional apple variety.

The robust cider apple is a local variety from the Central Baden region between Kenzingen and Kehl (Baden). The fruit is small and red to purple-red and has a short, thick stem. The fruits are often used as Christmas apples . The purple onion apple is rarely found today. The tree is vigorous and very robust against diseases. It is a typical fruit variety . The apple is ready to eat from November to March.
