Putzi (toothpaste)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Putzi is the product name of a children's toothpaste developed in the GDR , which is still offered under this name even after the fall of the Wall .

GDR time

The product went on sale in 1957 and was developed and manufactured in Dresden by VEB Elbe-Chemie , the successor to the expropriated traditional Dresden company Leowerke . The first flavor was “banana” and shortly afterwards “raspberry” and “chocolate” followed. Because of the sugar content, she seduced the children not only to clean, but also to eat the cream. In the 1960s, this resulted in the not-so-sweet, uniform taste called "fruity".

Toothbrushes and cups were also offered as additional Putzi products during the GDR era. This partly also as a set in a gift box. Putzi was the only children's toothpaste in the GDR and was successfully exported to other countries in Eastern Europe .

After 1989

The toothpaste is currently produced by the Dresden-based company Dental-Kosmetik GmbH & Co. KG and offered in the sugar-free flavors "Tutti Frutti + Calcium" and "Strawberry". In addition, there are Putzi toothbrushes and Putzi dental care chewing gum.

Advertising figures

In the early years, the toothpaste was advertised with a stylized sailor. From the beginning of the 1960s, the " sandman " became the product's mascot, and the teddy bear " Bummi " followed ten years later . After 1989 there was a baby dinosaur mascot.
